The South East London-Born Singer Previews Her Forthcoming Only Attempt In Dark EP

Hold Me Close opens on its own title, “hold me close, like you did before”, and asks never to be let go. INDIA BLUE co-wrote it with the South London rapper Hilts, who also produced it. She released it on 21 October 2026 as a preview of her forthcoming EP Only Attempt In Dark.

INDIA BLUE and Hilts are in the playlist below with Hold Me Close, among this desk’s neo-soul and alt R&B picks, and INDIA BLUE’s coverage is collected on the INDIA BLUE artist profile. The single reached BlackSounds.News through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news titles. Give it a listen, then read on for the lineage behind it.

The UK and European Beat Scene Built a Lineage of Producer Records Around Singers Like INDIA BLUE

The records INDIA BLUE has sung on descend from a clear line. J Dilla’s soul-sampling beats and the Soulquarians sessions gave neo-soul its loose, behind-the-beat pocket at the turn of the century. Nujabes then carried jazz-hop through the 2000s from Tokyo. Today a generation of beatmakers across the UK, Europe and beyond releases singles under their own names and brings singers in to carry them.

In fact, INDIA BLUE has become one of the voices they call. Josef Akin has worked with her most often, from Moondance in 2023 to Sidechayn, Fallen and Synergies. Similarly, Jianbo cast her on Embers in 2024 and on Exhale (Point Hill), released through Eastern Margins in 2025. FloFilz followed with Young Spirit and Know Your Worth, and ROKI with no one and demon.

In 2026 alone the list grew quickly. She sang on Inhibitions for Joe Corfield and My Wings with E. Lundquist. About Time paired her with the Japanese musician Osamu Fukuzawa and the London producer edbl as the last single before their Before We Spoke LP. She also appears on Das SPEZIAL’s Hope Against Hope EP, whose single Thief came out a week before Hold Me Close.

Scotland is part of the story too. She has also lived on Glasgow’s Southside, and she runs the Azamiah project. In August 2026 she was billed with Kai Reesu at the b-EAT Lounge in Edinburgh’s St James Quarter. The evening paired conversation with live sets and was hosted by the broadcaster Vic Galloway.

Between Those Features, INDIA BLUE Has Kept Her Own Records on the IBL Imprint

Meanwhile, her own releases tell the other half of the story. They run from Alchemy in December 2022 through the Arias, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 EPs to Confessions of an Imperfect Me. She released that EP single by single between September 2024 and March 2025. Cloudless mind followed in August 2025, then Only attempt in dark and ON HOLD in spring 2026. Every one carries the IBL copyright line, and so does Hold Me Close.

Born in South East London, she describes her delivery as a rhythmic, soulful flow that balances calm against moodiness. Her lyrics, in her own account, move through healing in both darkness and light.

Hold Me Close Gives Hilts the Production, the Mix and a Rap Verse Opposite INDIA BLUE

Hold Me Close keeps the circle small. India Blue Golding is credited as composer and lead vocalist, and she wrote the song with Daniel Hilton, who records as Hilts. Hilts also produced the track, mixed it and raps on it. It came out through AWAL on IBL, runs 3:56, and Dork covered it on release day.

Hilts, meanwhile, arrives with a UK hip-hop catalogue that includes the 2023 album Swings & Roundabouts, the 2026 EP A Night Not Alone and Never Like That with Loie.

The song tells an unrequited love from both sides as the roles reverse. One partner chose ambition and later misses a love that was taken for granted. Meanwhile, the other has moved on and found that her joy, peace and freedom now belong to her alone. Her Spotify biography frames the autumn 2026 work around letting go of old insecurities and shedding old skin, and the song lands exactly there.

Because there are two sides to tell, it uses two voices. INDIA BLUE sings lead and Hilts raps, which suits a warm, late-night R&B record built around one request.

The EP behind it came out of seclusion. Through the winter, as 2025 turned into 2026, she shut herself away and wrote the songs like diary entries. Each one started from synth and voice alone.

From the BlackSounds.News curator team: “We placed Hold Me Close fourth in our Contemporary R&B, Neo Soul, Alt R&B playlist, straight after Erykah Badu’s Didn’t Cha Know and Solange’s Almeda. A sung plea with a rap verse beside it fits that run. It is also the record we would play to anyone who knows Mama’s Gun but has not yet met the beat-scene singers who came after it.”

Erykah Badu and Cleo Sol Mark the Ground Around INDIA BLUE’s Hold Me Close

Finally, two artists help place Hold Me Close for listeners meeting INDIA BLUE for the first time.

Erykah Badu is the root of the lineage. Baduizm (1997) put her at the front of the neo-soul movement. For New Amerykah Part One (2008) she swapped music with Questlove, Q-Tip and J Dilla over her first computer. She then built backing tracks on a laptop before the main sessions at Electric Lady Studios. Trading tracks with producers is how most of INDIA BLUE’s catalogue has been made.

Cleo Sol shows the London end of it, and Clash heard her and SAULT in this single. Born and raised in Ladbroke Grove, Cleo Sol has made her albums from Rose in the Dark (2020) to Gentlewoman (2026) with her husband, the producer Inflo. She also sings lead in SAULT. A singer and a producer working as one unit is the model Hold Me Close follows with Hilts.

Start with Hold Me Close, then go back to Confessions of an Imperfect Me for the solo writing it grew from. After that, Exhale (Point Hill) or Know Your Worth shows the same voice on a producer’s record.

Follow INDIA BLUE on Spotify, Apple Music, Instagram and Linktree, and follow Hilts on Spotify. Stream Hold Me Close on Spotify or Apple Music.
