Louie C. and Stephon Share the Writing on a Soul-Leaning Single for an Ypsilanti Label

Two writers share Class. Louie C. leads it, Stephon is the featured name, and producer Flawless shares the arranging credit with both. The single came out on 10 July 2026 through Bom Ent Llc, an independent label in Ypsilanti, Michigan. It is a local record, and Ypsilanti hip-hop has a long history of those.

Louie C. and Stephon are in the playlist below, with Class in the running order. The single reached this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news titles. Listen to it there first, then read on.

The 734 Wave in Ypsilanti Hip-Hop Started With Crews That Made Their Own Records

The scene around Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti has never settled on one sound. Its artists tend to define it against Detroit, a short drive east. Detroit shaped it, yet it was never a copy. Instead, a community holds it together, and that community has made its own records for over 30 years.

Two acts did much of the early defining. Athletic Mic League came together in Ann Arbor in 1995, while its members were still at school. The crew released three albums over the next decade. Then Binary Star, the duo of One Be Lo and Senim Silla, made its debut, Waterworld, for $500 in 1999. Both members were on parole at the time and could not leave Michigan, so they toured the state instead. Meanwhile, students at local high schools sold the duo’s CDs to their classmates.

Radio kept the circle connected. On Ann Arbor’s WCBN-FM, DJ Chill Will has played hip-hop on The Prop Shop for close to 40 years. Big Detroit names and touring acts stopped in Ann Arbor too, so the local scene saw them up close. A younger wave, including the Ann Arbor trio Tree City and the rapper and beatmaker Tru Klassick, still names Binary Star and AML as teachers.

More recently, that community has organised itself into programmes. The Washtenaw County chapter of My Brother’s Keeper launched Formula 734. It matches young Black men with older hip-hop artists so they can make music together. The number in its name is the area code, and artists across the scene carry it in their handles.

Where Louie C. Fits in Ypsilanti Hip-Hop, With Stephon, Producer Flawless and a Local Label

Louie C. is one of them. The Instagram handle is kinglouie734, and the Facebook page calls the artist Louie C. The King. On Class, the credits put Louie C. at the centre, as composer, lyricist and arranger. Stephon co-wrote the lyrics and helped arrange the track, while Flawless produced it.

Class is a confident rap record with a warm streak of soul running through it. The writing goes for pointed lines. Then the flow carries them in an easy, melodic way, and that is where the soul side shows. It runs three minutes and 12 seconds and carries an explicit tag.

The single also sits near the start of a busy run. Don’t Be Surprised, with KEI, arrived on 17 June 2026, and Class followed on 10 July. After that, the autumn brought No Go with AILIS on 16 September, then OTW and Find A Way with Jozzy Wellz. Faucet, with AILIS again, followed on 30 October. That makes six singles in under five months, and five of them carry a second name.

The producers change from single to single as well. Coach Peaks produced Don’t Be Surprised, Sparks produced Find A Way, and Bezzy On Da Beat is behind both OTW and Faucet. That rotation suits the label behind them. Based in Ypsilanti, Bom Ent Llc offers distribution, beat placements, artist development, graphics and promotion. Its stated aim is to connect artists with producers and to give distinctive voices a steady platform. Its YouTube channel also posts short clips for the singles, No Go among them. The pair also have a backer in Isaiah Nyeem, a rapper who goes by BigNy5100 on YouTube and Instagram.

Binary Star and BabyTron Are the Adjacent Acts Behind Class by Louie C. and Stephon

Binary Star is the elder in this picture. The group took its name from a binary star. That is a pair of stars that looks like one point of light, while each circles the other. Later, Masters of the Universe, the 2000 album that reworked Waterworld, sold more than 20,000 copies.

The idea fits Class closely. A featured artist can be a passing guest. Here, though, Stephon holds a lyricist credit, so the single belongs to both writers. In other words, one name sits on the front and two hands are on the page.

BabyTron shows how far the same streets can reach. Born and raised in Ypsilanti, he came up through Detroit rap in the crew ShittyBoyz, with StanWill and TrDee. In 2019 his mixtape BIN Reaper carried Jesus Shuttlesworth, which went viral. Then, in 2022, XXL put him in its Freshman Class.

The shared word, Class, is a coincidence, yet the link behind it is real. Rappers from the area once believed they had to leave for New York, Los Angeles or Atlanta to be heard. BabyTron reached a national list from Michigan, and Louie C. and Stephon released Class through a label in their own city.

So Class is for listeners who follow regional rap closely and like soul in their hip-hop. It also suits anyone who reads the credits first. Three arrangers, two lyricists and one local label stand behind this three-minute single.

BlackSounds.News’s curator team: “Play Class straight after Fellowship, from Binary Star’s Masters of the Universe, which brings in Jamal Bufford of Athletic Mic League. The records sit 26 years apart. Both show the same habit in this scene: writers splitting one track, with the credit to match.”

Play Class in the player at the top of this article, or stream it on Apple Music. Follow Louie C. on Spotify, Apple Music, Instagram and the artist’s YouTube channel, and follow Stephon on Spotify. For more from the label, visit Bom Ent Llc or its YouTube channel.
